Do Great Danes Get Along With Cats?

#7 Raising Great Danes with other animals

Great Danes and other dogs in general react even better to cats later on if they have grown up with other animals. If they get to know other animals as puppies, it will be much easier to introduce them to a cat later on.

If you already have a Great Dane as a puppy, introduce it to other small animals on a regular basis. If you don't have any other animals in the house yourself, ask friends and neighbors. If you buy a Great Dane from a breeder, ask them directly if the puppies have been used to other animals.

In any case, Great Danes and cats or other small animals should never be left alone. The same applies to small children, by the way. The great mastiffs can easily knock them over during play and the child may develop a fear of dogs without soothing words or your intervention. You should definitely avoid this.
