Strictly speaking, insects have no blood at all, for their circulatory system, in contrast to that of vertebrates, is open; the colorless blood fluid, also called hemolymph, circulates freely throughout the body, transporting nutrients throughout the body.
Ants do have a kind of blood, though it is called hemolymph. What makes it different from blood is that it does not have red blood cells or hemoglobin. This is because ants’ blood does not need to carry oxygen around their bodies as it enters the body through the spiracles.
