Christmas With Animals: Here’s How To Bake Great Dog Cookies

There are magic lights in the windows. Christmas music is playing on the radio and the smell of baked cookies and gingerbread is everywhere … yes, it’s Christmas time! And no doubt about it, your dogs will also be delighted with homemade treats during this time. But which ingredients are good for animals and which shouldn’t be used?

What Ingredients are Allowed in Dog Biscuits?

If you make your own dog biscuits for your furry friends, then you will know exactly what is included in its composition – so you can be sure that there are no dyes, attractants, or preservatives in the cookies for your pet, which means that you will specifically solve the problem of intolerance.

But which ingredients are right? In principle, there are practically no restrictions on the production of dog treats. Meat and fish, vegetables and fruits, dairy products, eggs, and cereals are popular as binders.

Note: If you must use ingredients other than the recommended recipes if in doubt, it is best to ask your veterinarian if this is a good idea.

What Ingredients Should You Avoid in Dog Biscuits?

It is very important to avoid chocolate and cocoa powder. The substances they contain can lead to serious heart problems or even chocolate poisoning in dogs – even a small amount of chocolate can be fatal to dogs.

Also, don’t for sugar, baking powder, garlic, raisins, some nuts, and spices in dog biscuits. Too many oils and fats are also not a good idea.

How Long do Homemade Dog Biscuits Last?

You should always let the treats cook well and bake until crisp. Whole-grain cookies can last up to three weeks if stored in a dry place.

However, if dog biscuits contain meat and fish, they should be served as fresh as possible due to the shorter shelf life – they can only be kept in the refrigerator for a few days. If you plan on baking the cookies ahead of time, you can simply freeze them.
