Your cat doesn’t purr? So don’t rack your brains. Don’t immediately assume that your velvet paw doesn’t like you – the reasons why it doesn’t purr can be very different depending on the kitty. Learn more here.
If a cat doesn’t purr, it can be because it doesn’t feel well or – if the velvet paw is new to you – there hasn’t been a purring-worthy situation so far. However, if your kitty expresses its love in other ways—such as stroking your legs or a little nudge with its head—then you can rule that reason out. Your cat clearly has a lot for you. In this case, other reasons may be responsible for your fur nose not purring.
Cat Doesn’t Purr Because It Can’t
The fact that a velvet paw does not purr can simply be due to the fact that it is physically unable to do so. This may be due to a malformation of the vocal cords. You can have this checked out by your veterinarian . Don’t worry – it’s usually not a problem if a house cat can’t purr. In any case, it has nothing to do with not being liked as the owner.
Some Learn Late
Another possibility, not necessarily related to you, is that your cat is simply taking a long time to learn to purr, perhaps because it takes time for her to express trust in this way. This phenomenon can often be observed in found animals or conspecifics from the shelter that has had bad experiences in their previous lives. A fur nose that has or has not often been in a situation in which purring is an expression of positive feelings has to learn this expression of trust, so to speak. Patience is all that is required here. It can take years before the first vibrations are felt in the neck area.
