Can Ducks Fly?

If you keep the original duck and geese species, you can assume that they are very good fliers. They include, for example, the mallard or the mandarin duck. Here the animals should be kept with a net over the run or alternatively live in a quiet area where the animals can leave the run without any problems.

It also depends on the breed of geese and whether they are still able to fly. In particular, geese breeds that were bred for their meat are no longer capable of flying, or not very well. These include, for example, the Pomeranian goose or the German laying goose. But even with the flightless geese breeds, one should consider that geese can also cover long distances on foot!

Among the ducks, for example, the running ducks, Peking ducks, and Saxon ducks are among the flightless breeds. The wart duck is only able to fly to a very limited extent and only covers short distances, if at all. On the other hand, there are some domesticated species of ducks that can fly relatively well: These include the pygmy ducks, the emerald ducks, the high-breeding Muscovy ducks, and the crooked-billed ducks.
