If the kneecap (patella) jumps out of its guide, then we speak of a patellar luxation. It is an often very painful knee joint injury that causes instability. Oftentimes, the kneecap spontaneously moves back to its original location and “repositions” itself. It causes instability of the knee and considerable pain. An analysis of the gait pattern and movement exercises of the leg by the veterinarian can provide information as to whether a dislocation is present or not.
#20 The hip dysplasia
Hip dysplasia (also known as HD) is an inherited condition. The bony and cartilaginous parts of the hip joint are diseased and cause instability of the hip and considerable pain. HD can also cause osteoarthritis. An x-ray can reveal whether the disease is present or not.
#21 Obesity and diabetes mellitus
Almost 40% of the dogs in our homes are overweight. Obesity is not just a problem for us humans. The pug in particular likes to eat with us and only moves as much as master and mistress move. Too high an energy intake due to the wrong feed is often an additional point of conflict. Long-term overeating can lead to serious health problems such as diabetes mellitus, overloading of the musculoskeletal system and cardiovascular diseases.
