The Bavarian Mountain Hound is one of the German scent hounds that are still actively used today for hunting in the mountains.
The ancestors of the Bavarian Mountain Hounds include the Hanoverian Scenthounds. This breed of dog was bred to be lighter than other scent hounds, so these dogs can move quickly even in the high mountains. A dog of this breed is, therefore, a “Bavarian Bloodhound”. The German club for this breed is based in Munich.

This breed of dog reaches a shoulder height of 50 cm.
The average weight is between 20 and 25 kg.
Coat, Colors & Care
The coat of the Bavarian Mountain Hounds is dense, matt, smooth and lies close to the body.
Different reddish and yellowish colorings can occur in the coat color. In places, the red/reddish-brown coat can also be interspersed with lighter hair.
Grooming is uncomplicated due to the length. Only during the change of coat can you briefly brush over the coat as often as necessary.
Nature, Temperament
The nature of the Bavarian Mountain Hound is very intelligent, lively, and reliable.
Its dogs are mostly positive. It is loyal, brave, and faithful.
It is reserved and calm towards visitors.
Posture & Outlet
The representatives of this dog breed are certainly not apartment dogs. In contrast, they actually only feel comfortable in a house with at least hourly free access to the garden. They also need a lot of exercise and exercise.
Breeding is closely monitored. You have to be a hunter to get a puppy as these dogs can only be used as hunting dogs.
Keeping them in a dog-friendly kennel is possible if the dogs have enough exercise and meaningful activities.
Education & Eligibility
These dogs are often used for high mountain hunting. To do this, however, they must be carefully trained and then regularly and specifically trained afterward.
If you, as the owner, give your dog enough time and attention, training will take place without any problems and almost automatically.
