The Basenji is one of the so-called “primitive dogs” and its barking style can be compared to the wolf. Its exact origin is not certain, but it is assumed that it descends from the Egyptian Team, since it looks very similar to it. In 1870 the Basenji, whose name translates as “little wild thing from the bush”, was discovered by the British in Central Africa. It was not used as a domestic dog until around 60 years later.

General Appearance


The Basenji’s fur consists of very fine and thin hairs that lie close together. Coloration can range from pure black or white to reddish-brown or a mixture of all three colors.
