Oorsprong van die Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen

As the name suggests, the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen is a French breed of dog. He comes from the province of Vendée in western France. This is a very old breed that was threatened with extinction at the time but was saved by active breeders.

The history of this species has not yet been documented in detail. But some information and facts are available. The GBGV descend from the larger dogs, specifically the Grand Griffon. French dogs are known to be extremely social, good-humored, and have excellent hunting qualities.

Only at the end of the 19th century was the type of this breed determined by the breeders Comte d’Elva and Paul Dezamy. In 1907 the first breed club was founded, so the Grand Basset Griffon and Petit Basset Griffon breeds were bred. Since the 1970s, these two variants have also been distinguished in the FCI standard.
