21 Essential Training Tips for Labrador Owners

#4 Watch your tone

Remember your parents always said, "The sound makes the music"

This also applies to puppy training. Above all, he notices your tone of voice.

Instead of what you say, your puppy responds to how you say it. Your voice should be calm and cheerful. This creates trust in your dog.

In addition to your voice, your body language and facial expression should also be calm and cheerful. No aggressive posture.

#5 Be consistent

For example, part of consistent behavior is a fixed schedule. But there is more.

Whenever your dog does something right - even if it's just random at first - give him praise. With words and initially with treats, of course.

The same goes for negative behavior. If you don't want your dog to jump into bed, you need to consistently discourage him from doing so. If he does, you have to get him off the bed and say no.

Reward him if he stays seated in front of the bed. Leave the bedroom. If your dog follows you, reward that too. But it has to be consistent. If you see him in bed and leave him there sometimes but then keep signaling that it's wrong, it doesn't work. You confuse your dog and from his point of view are not a good leader of the pack.

#6 Try clicker training

Clickers are a great way to teach your dog something positive. Many beginners are skeptical about clicker training, but it has proven its worth over the past few years.

Getting a dog used to a clicker will help tremendously with training. It will help you in all areas of dog training, no matter what command you want to teach him.
