#16 Can Shelties be taught not to bark?
You can teach them to cease their barking by stopping the action that excites them. For example, if you are headed to get the leash off the hanger by the door and your Sheltie begins barking excitedly, stop your movement toward the leash. Don't yell or scold, just freeze.
#17 Are Sheltie dogs high maintenance?
Shetland Sheepdogs are a balance of low- and high-maintenance. On the one hand, while they require daily walks, they don't require intense amounts of exercise every day like Border Collies do. But on the other hand, their grooming needs can be demanding, as their double coat needs regular brushing.
