If you live in West Virginia (WV) and are trying to find Golden Retriever puppies for sale near you, then this article is for you. In this post, you can find a list of Golden Retriever breeders in West Virginia (WV).
As a soon-to-be dog owner, you should ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I mind if the puppy accidentally goes about his business in the home or breaks something?
- Do I have enough time for dog school and puppy play time?
- Is frequent and prolonged walking a problem?
- What happens to the dog during illness or absence?
- Do I have the financial means for medical care?
- Does nobody have pet hair allergies?
- Does the Golden Retriever have to stay at home alone for a long time because you work full-
- time and nobody else is around?
- Do I have enough time for daily play and training of the puppy/dog?
- Am I ready for the unconditional love of a dog who will greet me every day at the door with joy and wag its tail, want to lick my face, make me laugh, keep me fit, enrich my life and faithfully stand by my side?
The Golden Retriever is a breed of dog that is occasionally prone to hip dysplasia and/or elbow problems. Veterinarians, therefore, recommend as a precaution not to let puppies or young dogs climb stairs.
If you live on the ground floor or in an apartment with a lift, you have no problem. However, if you live in an apartment without a lift, you will have to carry the puppy up and down the stairs several times a day to protect the joints and this until about the end of the first year of life.
However, after a few months, the puppy already weighs over 20 kg and is of course getting heavier. Is this feasible for you without any problems or are you considering moving?
Once these points have been clarified or an appropriate solution found, then nothing stands in the way of the Golden Retriever puppy and you can start looking for a kennel.

Average Price of a Golden Retriever Puppy in West Virginia (WV)
$1000-$4000
Keep your eyes peeled when buying a Golden Retriever puppy!
With its gentle nature, the Golden Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds and is a coveted family and companion dog.
However, its popularity has also brought disadvantages for the Golden Retriever itself and possibly even for you.
Because dubious breeders, or should we better call them multipliers, offer cheap puppies that often have genetic defects and incurable diseases due to uncontrolled breeding.
In order for you to take a healthy dog home with you and to be able to recognize a reputable breeder, there are a few points to consider.
How should a healthy Golden Retriever puppy look and act?
- ears are neutral smelling, clean, and pink inside;
- no discharge from the nose;
- rosy gums;
- curious and alert;
- no cough;
- The anal region is clean;
- no lameness;
- Fur shines, and you discover no parasites;
- the stomach looks normal and is not bloated (caution: worms!);
- is happy when the breeder appears;
- he can easily be touched anywhere and also briefly held.
How do I recognize a healthy Golden Retriever puppy?
A responsible breeder even took excellent care of the health of the puppies until they were handed over at 8-12 weeks. You and the mother only got high-quality food, the puppies have been dewormed several times before moving to their new homes, have already been vaccinated, and given a microchip for clear identification. The vaccination status may differ depending on the delivery age.
A 12-week-old puppy will usually already have had the following injections, all of which have been properly recorded in a vaccination book: herpes, parvovirus, distemper, leptospirosis, kennel cough, and rabies.
The breeder or a veterinarian will tell you whether the basic immunization needs further refreshers in order to be completed and what the later vaccination rhythm looks like.
Also important for mental health: The breeder has already shaped and socialized the puppies well. They know other people and animals and were also able to enjoy a view over the edge of the whelping box.
They are familiar with different surfaces, water, street noise, maybe even driving in a car, household noises, etc. The animals should be relaxed, playful, and alert in the presence of the breeder. Be careful if the puppies are shy in the corner or if they react anxiously.
