16 Facts Every Golden Retriever Owner Should Know

The golden retriever has experienced a meteoric rise in Europe in the last ten to fifteen years. This was not only to his advantage because the reputable, long-established breeders of the breed could not keep up with the supply of puppies.

Commercial dog breeders came into play, or simply well-meaning people who just let their bitch be mated without first joining a breed club with its relatively strict breeding selection criteria.

#1 The Golden Retriever is still a predominantly very friendly, stress-resistant dog that is ideal as a children’s dog.

However, there are a few aggressive and nervous specimens today. This used to be unthinkable with the Golden.

#2 The appearance of this breed has also changed: the heads of modern show dogs are rounder, the coat is much lighter, some are almost white.

#3 With the Golden Retriever, it is extremely important to choose a puppy from a controlled breeder, which means that the breeder should belong to one of the two breed clubs that are responsible for the breed and are affiliated with the VDH.
