#10 Substance should not be confused with mass in the basset hound.
Every extra pound is detrimental to the basset's mobility and health, even more so than in the long-legged breeds. The skin folds, which some bassets have in abundance on the head and limbs, can sometimes show a tendency to eczema and should be kept scrupulously clean, as should the ears.
#11 Suitable occupations for this breed are long walks at a moderate pace with ample opportunities to sniff, as well as any form of tracking work, be it searching for lost objects or participating in appropriate (hunting) dog courses (of which you have to be aware that a hunting instinct once aroused can certainly bring inconvenience).
#12 Are basset Hounds hard to potty train?
Basset Hounds make a great family dog. They are excellent with kids and other animals, but when it comes to potty training, they can be pretty darn stubborn. One thing is certain, you will never get anywhere with your pup if you try to use any form of negative reinforcement or punishment training method.
