The pug is a very ancient and world-famous breed. How these dogs originated is still unclear. But, perhaps, they were obtained by crossing other breeds in ancient China, during the Han dynasty. That is, the pug breed is at least about 2000 years old, and this, you see, is impressive numbers. For many centuries of their history in China, pugs and their ancient vine ancestors have enjoyed a privileged position.

#1 Most researchers believe that the pug breed originated during the time of ancient China.

#2 Some researchers consider the ancestors of pugs to be the Old English Bulldogs and, therefore, their homeland – England; some – attribute the origin of pugs to the Netherlands, Turkey and even Africa.

#3 The first surviving mentions of the ancestors of pugs date back to 600 BC, and at that time pugs were considered hunting dogs.
