The dog descends from a variety of breeds, including the Pudelpointer (an early Pointer/Poodle/Barbet hybrid), the French Wirehaired Pointer, and the German Stichelhaar, the Polish Water Dog, and the early German Shorthaired Pointer. According to a source, the Bloodhound and Foxhound may also have been involved.
