Corgis are herding dogs and specialize in grazing cattle, sheep and Welsh ponies. They perform their duties by biting cattle by the legs. Due to their low stature, they do not run around the herd, but under the bellies of livestock, and avoid being hit by their hooves. As shepherds, corgi work differently compared to other herding breeds: they are not stayers constantly running around the herd, but sprinters who look after the herd from the side and intervene when necessary – they quickly run under the herd and return the stray animal. When the herd moves, the corgi control it from behind – by describing small semicircles, they “push” the herd in the right direction, and returning the stray animals with bites.
