#13 In order to save yourself trouble with the clingy dogs, you should train Shelties from the start to be alone, which is not in line with their nature.
You should also try to regulate barking right from the start, as herding dogs are predisposed to have a very loud organ and like to use it.
#14 With a good upbringing at a young age, you can control both with this breed relatively easily with the appropriate commands.
Since Shelties are rather small and very trusting and easy to train, they are very suitable as a first dog, as long as you have just as much desire to exercise as your four-legged friends. Although the herding dog can bark very loudly and is a loyal companion to you, it does not otherwise fulfill the characteristics of a guard dog, as it is rather reserved towards strangers.
Tip: Shelties love treats and you can put them to good use in training. Be sure to stow them away in a safe place though, as these playful dogs can get pretty greedy.
