#7 After selling their livestock, the ranchers would tie their money-filled purses around their Rottweilers’ necks to protect their money from thieves.
The local butchers also used the dogs to pull carts filled with meat.
#8 Rail transport finally replaced the drovers.
The Rottweiler almost died out. In 1882, at a dog show in Heilbronn, Germany, only a nondescript Rottweiler was exhibited. This situation changed in 1901 when the Rottweiler and Leonberger Club was formed and the first Rottweiler breed standard was written.
#9 The description of the Rottweiler’s appearance and character has changed little since then.
Rottweilers were now being used for police work, for which they were well suited. Various Rottweiler breed clubs were founded over the years, but the one with the most stamina was the Allgemeine Deutscher Rottweiler Klub (ADRK), founded in 1921.
The ADRK survived WWII and continued to promote good breeding programs in Germany and the rest of the world. He is committed to maintaining Rottweiler's working qualities. It is believed that the first Rottweiler came to the United States with a German immigrant in the late 1920s.
