#4 Other than the official distinction in nomenclature between Papillons and Phalenes, the breed has gone by other names and nicknames through the centuries.

It’s sometimes called the Butterfly Dog (which is simply an English translation of its true name) or Squirrel Dog.

#5 You’ll find Papillons in a rainbow variety of colors, with various combinations including black, brown, red, lemon, sable and tan. All colors are acceptable, but the AKC is very strict about one thing: White has to be in there somewhere.
