12 Things All Patterdale Terrier Owners Should Know

#4 Do Patterdales need lots of exercise?

As you might expect from any terrier, Patterdales are high energy dogs, despite their small size. They are also very intelligent and this means that you have to dedicate enough time every day to giving them as much vigorous exercise as they require to be well-behaved and well-rounded pets.

#5 We don’t want to hide it at all. The Patterdale Terrier can be quite stubborn. No wonder, since he is a real hunting dog. You may have already guessed: This dog is not for beginners. He belongs in experienced hands.

So what defines the character of this dog? A strong sense of self, an extremely fine hunting instinct, and an admirable poise when at home. But if you open the door to the garden or want to take him for a walk, he will transform into a bundle of energy in a matter of seconds. So if you like jogging or riding a bike, this would be a good way to meet the animal's enormous urge to move. But you should already be able to jog with the dog or lead the bike. This dog will set a decent pace.

In addition to his urge to move, his loving interaction with children is particularly striking. If they keep him busy with the ball in the garden, hours can pass without getting bored for those involved.

#6 How big do Patterdales get?

The Patterdale Terrier ranges in height from 10 to 15 inches at the withers. Weight should be in proportion to height, with dogs always shown in hard, fit, working conditions with no excess fat.
