#12 The situation is different, however, as soon as the Patterdale gets into the open air. Because then he almost explodes with energy and can become a great challenge for an inexperienced dog owner. His pronounced hunting instinct should not be underestimated.
You should never take him off-leash on walks, otherwise, he can easily disappear for a while. The Patterdale feels an irresistible urge to track down animals or chase after a fleeing animal. With his stubborn head, he basically ignores shouting and whistling when he wants to get up and away. If the Patterdale male encounters other males on walks, then he usually behaves very dominantly.
If the four-legged friend is not used for hunting, it must be sufficiently occupied and exercised. Because if he feels under-challenged, character weaknesses tend to show up and he tends to fight.
Patterdale Terriers can generally be kept in kennels. Note, however, that he still needs sufficient contact with his human family.
