12 Patterdale Terrier Facts So Interesting You’ll Say, “OMG!”

The Patterdale Terrier is just not made for the couch or the soft basket, he is just too lively for that. He is also not exactly a beginner’s dog and needs a firm hand and very consistent training. If that succeeds, the self-confident and stubborn terrier will become a wonderful family dog that is very clever and willing to learn, affectionate, and fond of children. He’s not a barker either, although he’s already very alert and ready to lion-defend his humans. If possible, the breed should not be kept in a small city apartment, although in the house he is generally peaceful and calm.

#1 A larger plot of land is more accommodating to the Patterdale Terrier’s urge to move. Outside he is often boisterous and enthusiastic about all sorts of games.

#2 He also likes to fetch and persistently and digs huge holes, sometimes in beds or borders. It may also dig under fences if it sees what it considers prey.

#3 Like all terrier species, the Patterdale Terrier sometimes has a problem with other dogs, especially other males, because he likes to show dominance where he is already inferior in size.
