Deutsch Wirehaired Pointers were bred in Germany in the late 19th century to be hardy and versatile hunting dogs capable of tracking, pointing, and retrieving in the harshest of climates.

#1 The dog descends from a variety of breeds, including the Pudelpointer (an early Pointer/Poodle/Barbet hybrid), the French Wirehaired Pointer, the German Stichelhaar, the Polish Water Dog, and early German Shorthaired Pointer.

#3 Today, the German Wirehaired Pointer is one of the most popular dogs in Germany, where it is known as the “Drahthaar”.
