In the 16th century, some pugs were brought to the Netherlands on merchant ships and quickly became popular with the wealthy ladies of Europe. It was only with industrialization that the affectionate dogs quickly fell into oblivion. It wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century that pugs got more attention again when around 1918 they became fashion dogs again.
