10 Important Tips for Beagle Newbies

#7 Never give your Beagle table scraps

Beagles love food. On the one hand, they are gourmets, like us. On the other hand, they are also gluttons if you let them. Some foods we eat can be toxic to them, such as grapes, chocolate, cola, or coffee.

Dogs will often sit next to your chair at the table hoping that you will give them food from your plate. I know all dogs - and beagles too - beg so heartbreakingly with their big eyes and want treats from the dinner table. But many foods are just not good for them.

You should not feed your Beagle, and all dogs in general, while eating, even if the food is harmless. Once your dog has learned this, he will beg again and again. And then not only with the eyes. Dogs quickly get used to barking or even simply stealing from the plate. This is particularly unpleasant when they then do this to visitors. So it's better if you don't let any expectations arise in the first place.

#8 Beagles are cuddly monsters

Beagles are often exhausting because of their power and endurance, but they are also real cuddly monsters. They love to curl up in our blankets and lie there.

And don't think that you can curl up on the sofa and have the sofa to yourself. Your Beagle comes immediately for a cuddle. That's what a lot of owners love about them. Beagles are affectionate. Not just on the sofa. They also follow you everywhere in the house.

#9 Apologize to the neighbors in advance

Beagles are loud and vocally expressive. They like to express their feelings by making different types of noises. Yes, I said plural sounds because they don't just bark; they wail, howl, scream, howl, cry and so on.

Over time you will be able to distinguish their tones and understand their mood.

If they want something, they'll be happy to let you know by whining and barking. When angry or frustrated, they bark loudly and even aggressively. When in a playful mood, they can howl loudly. When someone is at your front door, that's another bark all of its own.

Before you get a Beagle, you should check with your neighbors to make sure they are OK. Although they are small, they have powerful vocal organs. If you plan on raising a beagle as an apartment dog, be sure to let the neighbors know. And train your dog consistently from the start.
