A historically known pug is Fortuné. Considered the most famous pug in France, it belonged to Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon’s wife. Legend has it that Fortuné bit Napoleon in the leg on his wedding night. According to another legend, he saved the couple from being assassinated by barking.
