Although Australian Shepherds have a reputation for needing a wide-open space, they do very well in the city as long as they get enough stimulation and exercise of course. However, they are not apartment dogs. They need at least a small yard so they can vent a little of their tremendous energy.

Australian Shepherds shed an average amount and their coat requires regular grooming, including weekly brushing to keep it clean and prevent matting; the fur may also need to be trimmed to keep it looking neat.
