10 Best Alaskan Malamute Dog Tattoo Ideas

The Alaskan Malamute breed is considered the oldest among sled dogs. Originally, these fluffy jocks were bred for hauling loads and hunting in snowy landscapes. Icy temperatures and extreme weather conditions can therefore do little to harm the robust dogs.

So that the Alaskan Malamute can defy every ice age, it has a short, thick top coat. The dense undercoat, on the other hand, is soft and slightly oily to protect the dog from the cold and wetness. As a result, this breed sheds a fair amount of hair when molting, so daily brushing and vacuuming must be on the agenda. Males change their fur twice a year, females only once. In winter, the coat is also a lot lighter than in summer.

Because intensive grooming is the key, especially when changing fur, Alaskan Malamutes should be accustomed to daily brushing from puppy paws on. Baths should only be used in exceptional cases because due to their lush fur, these dogs often need a day or two to really dry out. Luckily, most dirt will fall out of the coat on its own once the dirt has dried.
